For FTTx projects, the first decision is where the assembly will be installed and what it connects. A feeder, distribution cabinet, indoor termination point and customer premises each place different demands on connector interface, cable jacket and length management.
Before requesting a quotation, document the active equipment port, connection point, route length, installation method and target optical performance. This prevents a common problem: a technically sound patch cord that is impractical to route, label or service once the crew is on site.
For staged FTTx delivery, we recommend grouping requested lengths and connector combinations by cabinet, floor or deployment phase before the packing list is finalized.
Choose the fiber and cable construction.
Single-mode OS2 fiber is the usual baseline for modern FTTx access networks because it supports the wavelengths and reach commonly used in PON deployments. Match the fiber category to the network design rather than treating it as an interchangeable purchasing detail.
The cable construction should follow the route. LSZH jackets are often requested for indoor and structured-cabling environments. For routes with greater handling or exposure demands, review bend behavior, outer diameter, tensile requirement and protection with the cable type in mind.

Confirm connector type, polish and polarity.
SC/APC remains widely used in FTTx because many splitter, termination and ONT interfaces are built around that connector format. LC and FC interfaces are also common in distribution, test and equipment-side connections. The mating port—not visual preference—should drive the connector selection.
Confirm the polish explicitly. APC and UPC are not substitutes: they have different end-face geometry and are intended for different reflection requirements. For multi-fiber or breakout assemblies, add polarity and end-to-end mapping to the order confirmation.
Shipment inspection is more reliable when the connector combination, cable length, label text and carton identification are all listed against an agreed product code.
Define test, inspection and packing needs before production.
Test scope should reflect the product and purchase requirement. For connectorized assemblies, buyers commonly request relevant optical test records, visual inspection and a check that the ordered configuration is represented correctly before packing.
It is useful to agree whether test information travels with each assembly, batch or shipment. For project deliveries, carton labels and packing lists should support receiving inspection without asking the site team to open every inner package.

Prepare a clear release package for your supplier.
A detailed release package reduces revisions after production starts. It should include a drawing or item list, connector and cable requirements, length tolerance, color and label artwork, packing method, requested inspection records and destination-market documentation requirements.
